Can Your PC Run Baldur’s Gate 3? Check the 2023 Requirements
Use Larian’s 2023 Windows requirements to check your CPU, GPU, RAM and SSD before installing Baldur’s Gate 3, with clear context for the minimum and recommended specs.
On 14 September 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3’s Windows release was about six weeks old. To check whether your PC fits, compare the processor, memory, graphics card and installation drive with Larian’s published Windows requirements.
The table reproduces the minimum and recommended rows in Larian’s Steam listing captured on 9 September 2023 .
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10, 64-bit | Windows 10, 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-4690 or AMD FX 8350 | Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon RX 480; 4 GB+ VRAM | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT; 8 GB+ VRAM |
| DirectX | Version 11 | Version 11 |
| Storage | 150 GB available space on an SSD | 150 GB available space on an SSD |
Check your PC’s exact components
In Windows, open Settings > System > About. Under Device specifications, note the processor and installed RAM; under Windows specifications, note the edition and version. Microsoft’s guide to Windows device information shows these fields.
To identify the graphics card, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and choose Performance > GPU. Record the full adapter name and its dedicated GPU memory. If Windows lists more than one display adapter, record each model and check the computer maker’s specification page if you are unsure which graphics chip is in use.
Check the drive where your Steam library will install the game. In This PC, note the free space for that specific drive. Search Start for Defragment and Optimize Drives and read the Media type column to confirm it is an SSD; Microsoft documents the built-in drive optimisation tool .
How to interpret the requirements
Larian said in February 2023 that the game might still be playable on hardware below its minimum specifications, but that this could hinder the experience. The exact result on below-minimum hardware remains uncertain for a given PC. Larian’s February update also explains that the studio raised the minimum specs as the game changed during Early Access.
The requirement list does not state a target resolution or frame rate for every configuration. In its 31 July update, Larian said a good CPU with a GeForce 3060 could play at 1440p and 60 fps; it recommended a top-end GeForce 4080 or 4090, or AMD equivalent, for native 4K, and said DLSS could lower the requirements. This is developer guidance; Jitsumi has not independently benchmarked it. The update does not specify the CPU model, graphics settings or test scene, so treat the figures as broad targets rather than a guarantee for every PC with the same GPU. Read Larian’s July update .
Keep the SSD requirement in view
The Steam listing requires 150 GB of available space on an SSD. Larian’s 31 July launch update estimated the full release at about 122 GB. Keep 150 GB free on the installation SSD to meet the published requirement.
These figures come from the publisher; Jitsumi has not benchmarked the listed configurations. If one component sits between the minimum and recommended examples, compare the exact model and the resolution you use before spending money on an upgrade.
