What to check before ending a Windows background process
Identify the app, save its work, and check what else relies on it before choosing End task or an automatic closure.
An unused app is worth closing before a game. An unfamiliar process is worth identifying first. Stopping the wrong one can interrupt voice chat, a recording, a download, or unsaved work.
Close the app normally first
Save your work and finish any uploads or downloads. Use the app’s own Exit or Quit command. If it is stuck, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager and find it. Check the name and file location before choosing End task.
One app can have several helper processes. A name you do not recognise is not a reason to stop it, and a large memory figure does not mean the app is doing something wrong. Leave it running until you know what it belongs to.
Leave essential tasks alone
Keep Windows services, security tools, drivers, anti-cheat, and accessibility software running. Check that voice chat, recording, and cloud saves have finished before closing their apps. Do not disable protection as a way to chase a higher benchmark score.
Review Game Booster’s program lists
Game Booster can close or suspend listed apps. Closing can force an app to stop, so save first and do not expect it to reopen when the game ends. Suspending pauses an app; it is a different action from closing it. Check the relevant list before enabling either action or its automation.
For an app you rarely use, consider disabling its automatic startup in Windows instead. That changes what opens next time you sign in rather than stopping it in the middle of a task.
